Selkirk High School caught up in exam results blunder
SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Selkirk High School pupil Flora Robinson got caught up in the exam results blunder - and then revealed it was a relief because it spared her a night of worry.
Almost 30,000 pupils received their exam results a day early this year, after signing up to get their grades by text message to their mobile phones.
The Scottish Qualifications Authority was forced to apologise for the error but insisted nobody was advantaged or disadvantaged as a result of the early delivery.
Speaking to the Border Telegraph on Thursday, Flora, who received four A's and a B in her Highers, said: "I was pleased that I got my results a day early because it took the stress out of waiting to see how I had done.
"Last year I signed up to receive my results by email and I sat at my computer constantly refreshing the screen - it was horrible."
Other pupils celebrating their exam results this week were Alex Carroll and Andrew Toole, both 15 and from Selkirk.
Alex scored eight straight ones in his Standard Grade exams, while Andrew picked up seven grades one and a grade two. However, Alex admitted he was slightly surprised by his results - because he didn't finish his Graphics exam.
Figures have revealed pass rates for Standard Grade and Higher results have hit a record high, although the number of young people sitting exams has fallen.
Education Secretary Mike Russell has praised the hard work and achievement of young people across Scotland. He said: "We've actually got an improvement in results in Scotland, that's a testimony, to hard work."
For those who haven't done quite as well as they wanted to, don't despair, Skills Development Scotland has set up an exam results advice line to provide students and parents with instant access to help, advice and information about higher education choices and next steps.
