A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after police seized illegal drugs during early morning raids in Galashiels.

A team of 20 officers, including staff from the Lothian and Borders Police Specialist Support Unit in Edinburgh and a specialist dog handler, forced their way into three properties in Langlee during Operation Gather on Wednesday, February 22, shortly after 9am.

They recovered a quantity of cannabis following a subsequent search of the properties.

Police confirmed a man has been charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act and is expected to appear at court in connection with the find at a later date.

A woman was also detained during the operation in connection with another ongoing drugs investigation and released pending further enquiries.

Later today, local officers will carry out a letter drop informing neighbouring properties of today's activity. Anyone who wishes to report a crime is asked to contact their local policing team, or the charity, Crimestoppers.

Acting Police Sergeant Russell Copeland, who led the operation, said: "Drugs are the scurge of any community and we rely on the public giving us information about potential drug dealers or the distribution of drugs in the Scottish Borders.

"The communities in the Scottish Borders need to be reassured that the police are here working on their behalf, along with the partner agencies.

"Our presence within Langlee today has sent a very clear message that we will robustly investigate any reports of crime within our communities.

"It should also serve as a reminder that the public will not tolerate criminals plaguing their local area and will work alongside police to identify and remove these individuals from the community."
