Public meeting to fill residents in on future of Coopersknowe gap site
IT is one of the plushest postcodes in the Borders.
Coopersknowe in Galashiels boasts a mix of four and five-bedroomed homes - some of which have sold for upwards of £350,000.
However, with only three of four phases of the luxury housing development completed, the upmarket estate off the Lauder Road remains scarred by an ugly gap site.
Work stopped on the final phase of the project after the developers, Edinburgh-based Coopersknowe Developments, which bought the land in Easter Langlee from Galashiels firm Clover Homes, became the first limited liability partnership in Scotland to fall into administration.
However, four years after the firm were first granted planning permission to build 50 homes on the site in Easter Langlee, which is now believed to be owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland, work could finally be set to start.
Galashiels and Langlee Community Council this week heard Edinburgh-based architects Yeoman-Mcallister could be set to submit revised plans.
They have organised a pre-consultation meeting at Langlee Community Centre on Thursday, March 1, from 2pm to 8pm.
A spokesman for Yeoman-Mcallister this week confirmed the revised plans for phase four of Coopersknowe were for "around 40 new homes", which he said was "more realistic" in the current economic climate.
Meanwhile, work is underway on the biggest new housing development in Borders.
Last year, Persimmon Homes, was granted planning permission to build 500 new homes on a neighbouring site at Easter Langlee in Galashiels.
And, last week, it completed a new right hand turning lane into the site following concerns over road safety. It had been anticipated that the road improvements would not be made until the first houses were built and occupied.
