T IN THE PARK could be staged in Melrose this year. And the headline act could be Queen!
However, it has nothing to do with the country's biggest music festival, which is held at Balado, near Kinross, every year, or the rock band of the same name.
Community councillors revealed they could organise their own tea in the park to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June this year.
It was one of a number of suggestions mooted at Melrose and District Community Council meeting in the Ormiston Institute on Wednesday night last week.
Provost William Windram, who suggested an open air church service could be held at Melrose abbey and be followed by a family picnic in the Gibson Park, said: "We could have T in the Park in Melrose with actual tea."
The community council heard Scottish Borders Council was set to announce a special fund to help local groups organise their own street parties to mark the milestone.
And members invited the public to come forward with their own suggestions.
The Queen visited Melrose during her Golden Jubilee tour in 2002.
