Police appeal following 'despicable' theft
POLICE have described thieves who broke in to a house in the Borders as "despicable".
It follows a raid on a home near Maxton sometime during the day on Monday, April 18. A number of items of "significant sentimental" value were stolen.
Similar thefts were reported in the nearby Heiton and Roxburgh areas earlier this month. And now police have appealed for information.
In a statement released to the Border Telegraph, PC Michael Norrie said: "Sometime during the day on Monday 18th April a house was broken into near the village of Maxton and various items of personal property was stolen. These include items of significant sentimental value which makes this crime even more despicable.
"Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact them. They are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen people walking on the roads and lanes in and around the Maxton or St Boswells area.
"Also anyone who may have had strangers calling at their doors on Monday and in particular anyone who may have seen people in the fields leading from Maxton to the Jenny Moores estate in St Boswells."
Anyone with information is asked to contact their local police station (Galashiels: 01896 752222) or Divisional Headquarters at Hawick on 01450 375051.
