A 10-YEAR-OLD girl was rushed to hospital after being knocked down by a car in Jedburgh.

The youngster suffered serious injuries in the collision with a silver Honda Civic, which was travelling south on the A68, near the bridge at the swimming pool, on Thursday around 5.15pm.

She was taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment but has since been transferred to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh where her condition is described as being critical but stable.

Police have appealed for witnesses. A spokesperson said: "We would have expected the area to be quite busy in the early evening last night, and we are keen to hear from anyone who was there, and who saw what happened, to come forward."

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers, in confidence and complete anonymity, on 0800 555 111.
